WHAT IS OUR WHY?

Creating the Koda Foundation was driven by two stories in particular that we hold close to our hearts.

#TAYLORSFIGHTCLUB

Taylor Sanders needed a life-saving, emergency surgery on August 21, 2015. It is believed that Taylor’s appendix ruptured two days prior, releasing poison that spread unhindered throughout her body. Septicemia had set in by the time her emergency appendectomy was performed. An 11-inch incision was made to irrigate and clean her abdominal cavity. Taylor spent 6 days in the hospital, was given 16 bags of IV fluids and 24 bags of IV antibiotics. Ten days after the initial surgery, another surgery was performed: two openings in the original incision were made to eliminate the lingering infection. With the support of her family and friends along with her dedication to living a healthy lifestyle, Taylor made a full recovery. Taylor’s story made it incredibly evident how much we value the community and people surrounding us.

Ben Hymer

Ben Hymer was only four months old when he went through open heart surgery and many other medical procedures to keep his little body fighting. Before Ben was born, he was diagnosed with both Ventriculomegaly and a heart condition. Ventriculomegaly is a condition where enlarged ventricles in the brain can inhibit the development of the brain, and could cause mild to severe developmental and physical delays. The CrossFit community came together to support sweet baby Ben, daddy Drew, mommy Megan, and brother Max. Ben will be dealing with a long series of health issues for the foreseeable future, but they are all fighters, and we want to stand with them as they brave these tough challenges. Ben’s story got the wheels turning and initiated the creation of the Koda Foundation.
